[edit] Extensions vs Default Options
Vanilla has a lot of extensions, but very few default options. This is on purpose, of course, but people keep mixing up default options with those only available through extensions. New users might be disappointed by finding out that these are not default after installing the software. I tried to make it clear by adding some text to the description of the forum's options. Should the options available through extensions be added, or should the default options be stripped of all extension-related info, and just KISS? Eris Siva 06:42, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think you can add text about what is available as extensions, but point out that those things aren't included in the vanilla download, and have to be added manually. --Lijnema 17:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Validating (x)html vs. valid (x)html
Someone removed the text about Vanilla being valid, with the comment that it validates but isn't valid. Unless someone can explain how it is different, and why it matters, I'll revert that edit. --Lijnema 17:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- That was me, actually. :-| My reasoning is that while the markup may be valid, Vanilla makes use of elements in nonsensical ways that don't actually make sense unless a stylesheet is applied. So while the markup validates through the W3 validator, its not actually valid use of these elements (something the validator can't check.)
- I'll leave it for now because I figure this is probably worth a little discussion, and I understand some people may not be happy with it. --Techtoucian 05:16, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, but that's really just an objection that the tags used are not always the best choice semantically. The validness of the markup is purely a statement about syntax, no? The specification states which syntax may be used and what kind of data may be inside certain tags, it doesn't require specific meaning of the data. --Lijnema 13:28, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article rewrite
I think it would be good to change the Features section article, and change it into one section (or perhaps as a part of more general description) outlining the philosophy behind Vanilla, with the minimalist core, and one section about extensions and so on. I checked, and since the release of Vanilla 1.0, three months ago, there have been added over 130 extensions, which I guess should be written down somewhere, since it shows how active the community is. And perhaps also the fact that there are 26 translations is worth mentioning somewhere. Comments? Anything else that should be edited/added? --Lijnema 14:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vanilla does not allow deletion of posts
Which leads to an useless database growth, although it is possible hide posts, vanilla does not provide means to remove them from the database, a big database is usually a not efficient database. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.228.100.73 (talk)
