Rationale for fair use of this image in the article Van Halen. No free or clearly public domain images have been located that demonstrates the historical roots of the band.
The poster is intended to provide an illustration of the band's professional activity before their official album debut. Of the various posters found on the web, this poster most clearly shows the band's name, venue name and date of performance (three pieces of information which are difficult to find together on any piece of historical advertising for the band).
The poster of this image is for sale on many websites and the image itself is used in this context. Although this lower-resolution image may increase awareness of the existence of the poster, it does not facilitate reproduction of the actual poster (in fact this image may fuel "official" poster sales). It does not detract from the original and is used for information purposes only.
In the section regarding the origins of Van Halen, the use of this image provides a helpful supplement to help the reader understand how the band emerged from obscurity to fame.
