[edit] The Practice

The Tantrists of the Vamac(h)ara (“the left-hand practice”) seek to intensify their own sense impressions by making enjoyment, or sensuality (bhoga), their principal concern: the adepts pursue their spiritual objective through their natural functions and inclinations, which are sublimated and then gratified in rituals in order to disintegrate their normal personality (chiefly the ego). The whole world, because it becomes completely ritualized, is given a new and esoteric meaning.
