Valley of Decapitated Horses
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Valley of Decapitated Horses is a six piece Deathgrind/Goregrind band from Fairbanks, Alaska. The band formed in 1989 as "Sawed", but later changed due to many line-ups. They got the name from Lawrence Cunningham, who had a vision where there was a serial killing farmer cutting horses & cattles heads off. Lyrically, Valley of Decapitated Horses lyrics deals with Violence, and gory horror movies, which may explain why the band was named after that after it was called "Sawed". Unlike most goregrind bands, their songs are quite longer than the average goregrind song to date. Songs range from a few seconds to ten minutes long. The longest song from them, "Decomposition of Dead Bumblebees (the title was taken from "The flight of the Bumblebee)", went on for as song as twenty five minutes. Some of their lyrics deal with violent attacks against White Trash.
[edit] History
The band was started as "Sawed" in December 17, 1989, by Lawrence Cunningham (Guitar, Vocals), Seth Yielding (Drums), and Greg Yoshima (Bass). They started the band when both members were twelve. Their style was more like early Carcass, though they lack musicianship. In 1995, members Henry Velda (Guitar), Nathan Swisikov (guitar), and Danny Schultz (Keyboard) joined in the scene, and Sawed was replaced by the band name that always sticked out. Their first album, "Hammer Smash Suicide" was released on Earache Records. Music is recognized by its extremely low vocals, and fast inhumane drumming, which some fans of the music would like to consider them Noise, or an unusual form of antimusic. In 1999, they released an album on the same label titled "Chainsaw Surgery". In 2004, they had a deal with Relapse Records, and recorded "Morbidly Maimed, and Left for the Flies". Albums can last up to an hour or so, with tem to thrty tracks, depending on the length of their songs. Musically, the style is Brutal Death Metal/Technical Death Metal/Noise. They broke up in 2005 due to many argument on who was going to be the head leader. However in March 1, 2006, they renounce that they are back together, and is about to release another album on Relapse Records.
