Valley View High School (Pennsylvania)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valley View High School is located in Archbald, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1969 after Jessup High School burned down. Soon after, the schools of Archbald, Blakely, and Jessup decided to combine and form a larger cohesive school. A contest was held to name the school throughout Archbald and Blakely. The winning name was Valley View [submitted by Miss Debbie Lanuti]. The cougar was chosen as the mascot and the colors became blue, gold, and white. Since then, their football team was state champion in 1992 under coach Frank Pazzaglia, the boys' basketball team was state runner-up in 1996 under coach Frank Nicolosi, and the girls' softball team was state champion in 2000 under coach James Delonti. The girls' soccer team has won two district championships, and the boys' soccer team captured their own district championship in 2002. The school also has dedicated baseball, swimming/diving, and track and field teams along with a numerous amount of clubs including the ski club, SADD, PTSA, chess club, drama club, Spanish, French, and Italian clubs. Music, drama, and the arts are very prominent at Valley View. Many students have participated in PMEA [Pennsylvania Music Educators Association] festivals and won many music awards. The school is known for its excellent spring musicials which always draw a large crowd. Football remains the oldest tradition at Valley View, and in 2004 the school spent 3.4 million dollars on a new football and soccer field. This new field in located in Peckville Pennsylvania, next to the elementary school. The field was changed from grass to turf, the bleachers were changed from wood to metal, the surrounding gravel was paved and the concession stands were redone. These renovations to the stadium allows for more parking and a bigger seating area for the spectators.
