Valletta Waterfront

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Valletta Waterfront, in Floriana, Malta, is Grand Master Pinto's baroque Wharf built in the 18th Century. It has been thoroughly renovated by a private consortium who run the Waterfront and offer management overseeing for Malta's lucrative cruise liner business.

The Waterfront is also currently being used as a popular venue with a concentration of upmarket bars, retail outlets and restaurants after a recent thorough restoration process. International names such as Hard Rock Cafe operate in the area.

The Waterfront has also been used by specialised firms such as Nexos Lighting, NNG Promotions and Massimo Ellul's M & E Management Group for international events, concerts and exhibitions, with the latter introducing the concept of international concerts in May 2006 with a sold out Amedeo Minghi concert.

On 23 March 2007 Walter Micallef u l-Ħbieb modern folk jazz sextet launched their album Ħamsin in front of a packed Powerhouse Theatre. The album features six of Malta's leading musicians, including WOMAD percussionist Renzo Spiteri and is all in Maltese. The event was televized by PBS Television Malta for eventual viewing later on in the season.

Other concerts and events included Krokus, the Malta Jazz Festival, the Malta Fireworks Festival, the Perfect Wedding Fair and other themed events.
