Valle Romano Open de Andalucia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Valle Romano Open de Andalucia is a new European Tour men's professional golf tournament which will be held for the first time from 10-13 May 2007 in the Spanish region of Andalucia. It will be played at Aloha Golf Club.
The tournament owes its origins indirectly to the PGA Tour's decision to reschedule the Players Championship from March to May. In response the European Tour decided to move the British Masters, which is one of its higher profile tournaments, from that same week in May to a September slot when more top players will be available. The Valle Romano Open de Andalucia was created to fill the gap in the schedule thus created. It will have a €1 million prize fund. It is being promoted by the personal companies of the Spanish European Tour members Miguel Angel Jiménez and Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño.
The name "Open de Andalucia" was also used by the European Tour in the 1990s. The Turespana Masters, a European Tour event which was played from 1992 to 2000 was known in full as the Turespana Masters Open de Andalucia from 1992 to 1995.
