[edit] Appearance/History
First seen in Parental Bonding, Valerie is an ex-popular girl at Casper High.
Officially debuting in "Shades of Gray", Valerie Gray was part of the "in" crowd with Paulina, Dash, Kwan, etc. until the appearance of a huge ghost dog at Axion where her father Damon Gray has a security contract with. The ghost dog trashed the place and her dad was fired; Valerie ended up with little money and less popularity. Later, Tucker reveals to her that the dog is actually a ghost and tells her of his knowledge of them (which supposedly comes from Danny's parents). Valerie dedicates herself to learning how to hunt ghosts afterwards, if not to swear revenge on Danny Phantom and the ghost dog for ruining her life. She soon mysteriously receives a number of advanced ghost hunting technology from Vlad, unaware of who he is. Upon encountering the "ghost kid", Danny Phantom, Valerie vows to hunt him down and destroy him, but so far has yet to succeed.
Later, in "Life Lessons", Danny and Valerie are forced to work together against Skulker, who has trouble deciding which of the two to hunt after seeing them battle (against each other) and decides to hunt both. The two form a tenuous truce.
During Reign Storm, she and Danny forge a friendship, leading to her new crush on Danny. However in this episode Danny, while in his ghost form, reveals her ghost-hunting identity to her father, causing her major trouble with her father and increasing her grudge against Danny Phantom. Valerie also learns that Vlad Masters is the one who supplied her equipment, but she is unaware of his second identity as Plasmius.
An alternate version of her was also seen in "The Ultimate Enemy" where she is grown up and still fighting ghosts as the sole protector of the future Amity Park (along with her dad, who apparently is taking residence in the now abandoned Fenton home). Valerie's grudge against Danny (then Dark Danny), of course, had only intensified in that timeline. Though after being rescued by the past Danny, she mentions he was "still kinda cute" hinting she may have found out his secret at some point. She is currently battling Sam for the affections of "Danny Fenton".
Most recently, Valerie was prominently featured in the episode "Flirting with Disaster" in which the evil ghost Nikolai Technus uses Danny and Valerie’s mutual attraction to distract Danny Phantom while he breaks the encryption on a super-computer. Valerie falls deeply for Danny Fenton, but still continues to hate Danny Phantom, especially when he destroys her battle suit, now under the control of Technus. Later, when Danny is trying to stop Technus’ supercomputer from taking over the world, Technus grants Valerie a new extremely high-tech anti-ghost armor that is controlled by thought and activated at will from an unknown source. Valerie, now angrily flying through the sky trying to kill Danny when he flies to outer space, is subdued by a high energy blast shot by him. Ironically, she is still unaware that Technus was ever part of the plan to reach the supercomputer, and that Danny was the protagonist. In the end, Valerie decides to end her fledging relationship with Danny because of her dual identity, still ironically unaware that Danny shares the same fate.
In the episode "Kindred Spirits", it's revealed that Vlad has been secretly spying on Danny and collecting data on him through Valerie's suit. Valerie, however, is most likely unaware of this fact.
With her personal vendetta against Danny Phantom driving her to a possible obsession, she's most likely to follow him to the ends of the Earth in her attempts to destroy him. Future appearances are expected.
[edit] Personality
Valerie started off as one of the popular children in school leading her to be snobbish and selfish, living off her father's money in his well-paid job. After an encounter with ghosts, Valerie's personality takes a swift turn as she now has to learn to deal with the harsh ordeals of everyday life.
Valerie is a well spoken girl with a penchant for grudges and easier angered in many situations. She lets out most of her aggression when she's fighting (where she's been reported to be of a ninth Degree level Black Belt martial artist), preferring to fight first, ask questions never. Often this clouds her general judgement where she remains a pleasant person to be with. Because of her new experiences in life, she has better respect for Danny Fenton who she harbors romantic feelings for.
In her suit, Valerie is an entirely different person. She has no remorse over the ghosts she tries to destroy. Although, not in a sadistic manner, Valerie has devoted all of her time and obsession to try to kill Danny Phantom. She even stopped a potential relationship with Danny Fenton to devote all of her time to his alter-ego (whom she is still unaware that is Danny Fenton himself). In her new suit, she is a darker person, still dedicated to killing Danny Phantom, but in a more violent and even more aggressive tone than before.
[edit] Relationship
[edit] Danny Fenton
Mutual affections for one another were nothing but chaos at first as Valerie was a popular girl, seeing below Danny's status. By the time her father was fired and she lost her well paid life style and popularity status, she and Danny often interacted. At first, this was problematic as their attitudes to one another bounced off each other; however come the end of "Reign Storm", the two found some common ground and it got to a point where they started to feel for each other romantically. They dated briefly in "Flirting with Disasters", almost officially a couple until Valerie breaks up with him, stating her current life (as a ghost hunter) would get in the way of their relationship and safety, unaware he leads a similar fate.
Her respect for Danny Phantom however is anything but kind. Seeing him as the ghost who ruined her life at the beginning, she has since hunted him down for personal vendetta, her attitude to him increasingly aggressive on each of their meetings. She is unaware Fenton and Phantom are one and the same.
[edit] Damon Gray
She and her father share a good relationship together, but he is not happy with her current choice as a ghost hunter, viewing it as too dangerous for her.
[edit] Vlad Masters
The man who gave Valerie her ghost hunting suit, she didn't officially find out it was from him until "Reign Storm". She holds a great deal of respect for the man, unaware of his own true intentions (the suit was designed to spy on Danny for his own use). She is unaware Plasmius and Masters are one and the same.
[edit] Sam Manson and Tucker Foley
Neither of the two trusts Valerie due to her status as a ghost hunter. Tucker once held a crush on Valerie in "Shades of Gray", but has since died down. Sam however has been livid towards her from the beginning, if not due to her jealously over Danny and Valerie's increasing relationship together, though she tried her best to accept her in "Flirting with Disaster."
[edit] Star
Even after losing her popularity, Valerie continued to hang out with her, a girl still part of the popular crowd as seen in "Flirting with Disaster."
[edit] The Suit/Weapons
[edit] Old Suit
Valerie's original suit was a red form-fitting jumpsuit which comes from Vlad Masters. She originally got the suit anonymously from Vlad, complete with Ecto-guns, a glider (design to self glide to pilot when off the board), and other forms of ghost hunting materials. He eventually explained why he gave it to her, stating she was a promising ghost hunter. In "Kindred Spirits", it is revealed the suit contained hidden cameras of sorts to help collect DNA from Danny to create a perfect clone of him revealing Vlad's true intention behind the suit.
[edit] New Suit
Eventually, Valerie's original suit was destroyed after it was possessed by Technus, but later gains a new one from the techno ghost to further distract Danny Phantom while he tried to rule the world. Technus (from inside the computer) shoots an ectoplasmic energy beam at Valerie's body, fusing her with the remnants of the old suit plus his powers, creating an extremely hi-tech suit. Unlike her old suit, she doesn't need to change into it, but seems capable to making it appear by thought, very similar to how Danny transforms into his ghost form. She is unaware that Technus gave her the suit, since she only cared about exterminating Danny Phantom at the moment.
The new suit is a more modifed version of the old, including self generating weapons and glider that also seems to come from just her thoughts and oxygen mask to breathe in space. She has direct telepathic control over all functions of her suit, which is perhaps an offshoot of Technus's own technopathic powers.
