Vajnory )German: Weinern, Hungarian: Pozsonyszől(l)ős) is a small city part in the northeast of Bratislava.
Near Vajnory is located the Milan Rastislav Štefánik international airport. Near the city part is also the first airport in Slovakia - Vajnory Airport, which was closed in 2006.
[edit] History
The first written mention about Vajnory stems from 1237, when it was a village with its original Slovak name Prača/Pračany, until 1307, when the monastery in Austrian Heiligenkreuz bought it and name the village Weinern and it referred to the main activities of villagers, working on vineyards and making wine and this name remains today with the Slovak variant of this name, Vajnory. It was bought again by Bratislava in the 16th century, but it was part of it only to 1851, shortly after abolishing serfdom, when Vajnory became an independent village again. It was made official city part of Bratislava in 1946.
