VAG Rundschrift (literally "Round Writing" in English) was designed in 1979 as the corporate typeface for the Volkswagen AG motor manufacturer. It features rounded ends to all strokes and, arguably, was the inspiration for the General Electric typeface, GE Inspira.
Volkswagen ended its use of the VAG Rundschrift family in the early 1990s, and it is widely available today and is licensed through Adobe Systems.
With many recent Web 2.0 startups, some internet companies prefer the design of VAG Roundschrift because of its distinct visual characteristics.[citation needed]
[edit] Similarities to GE Inspira
Many experts in brand research and graphic design believe that VAG Rounded was the inspiration to GE Inspira, due to similarities between many of the typefaces' lower-cased letters.
