Vadakkencherry is a small village in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. It is under Alathur Taluk in Palakkad district. The NH 47 (National Highway) passes through Vadakkencherry. Vadakkencherry Vela is one of the famous festivals in Kerala. Though the spellings are different, many people confuse with Wadakkancheri, of Thrissur. So in order to avoid confusion some of the people say as Alathur Vadakkencherry or Vadakkencherry-MBR. MBR stands for Malabar region. The Postal Code of Vadakkencherry is 678683. The name Vadakkencherry is shorten in as VDY or VDCY.

Vadakkancherry sometime also spelled as Vadakkuncherry is located in the middle of Palakkad District and Thrissur District. Vadakkancherry is surrounded by other locales such as Puthukod, Kizhakkancherry and Ayakkad.

It has a few old temples - Kodikkattu kavu, Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Kovil, Vinayaka Temple, Nagaraja Temple and Padarkavu Sri Krishna Temple. The idols are hundreds of years old. It is said that there are very few idols of Lakshmy Naryana where Lakshmi is resting on the lap of Narayana. There are also two bhagawathi temples and a shiva temple in and around the town.

A festival of 11 days is conducted during Navarathris, where caprisoned elephant along with the deity is taken out through the village in morning and evening. The famous 'Vela'(festival) are Ganapathy Sahayam, Naga Sahayam, Kodikkattukaavu, Namboothiri Mutthan, Mangottu Mutthi. The Committees of these temples are conducting programs very well.

Vadakkencherry is lush with greenery, and 10 km inside one can really enjoy the thick forestery on the eastern side.
