V3 LANs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
V3 is a bring-your-own-computer computer gaming event held in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was started by the founders of the L3 LAN group to allow gamers under 18 years of age access to larger LAN events in the south island.
The key points of difference between a V3 event and an L3 event are that:
- V3 is R16, L3 is strictly R18
- V3 bars all alcohol, L3 is sometimes BYO
- V3 runs CS and CS:Source tournaments, L3 discourages CS
- V3 focuses primarily on gaming tournaments, L3 focuses on social events
[edit] Origin
The concept of V3 was mooted between members of the L3 admin team several times from 2005 onwards, but only really gained momentum in 2006, as the group gained a stronger autonomy logistically. The first event was eventually settled for mid October 2006.
The name 'V3' itself does not stand for anything, in manner consistent with the L3 name. It was chosen simply as a similar name to convey the relationship between the two groups.
