V-rex
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vastatosaurus Rex (abbreviated as V-rex) is a fictional dinosaur appearing in the 2005 remake of King Kong as one of the creatures of Skull Island. It is a large dinosaur, with adults ranging 40-50 feet in length. It is very different to Tyrannosaurus rex. The main difference is that V-rexes are more robust, have chunkier snouts, stronger jaws and reinforced skulls for enemy confrontations. Another of having three fingers on each hand, as opposed to two. Kong battles three of these monsters in the remake and they are each individual characters. The juvenile is beaten senseless and a huge rock is slammed down on its head. The matriarch is killed due to multiple injuries and the bull V-rex, which is the ultimate example of the species and is the main villain, is destroyed when Kong tears it's jaws apart.
The "V-rex" was added to the 2005 movie as a homage to the original 1933 film, in which T-rexes were depicted with three fingers on each hand due to limited archaeological knowledge at the time. The explanation given was that the third fingers were the result of continued evolution following the extinction of dinosaurs elsewhere in the world.
