Vítor Ilídio Castanheira Penas, born in Chaves, Portugal on September 7, 1977 and known as Castanheira, is a Portuguese footballer who currently plays for SC Braga in the Superliga.
Castanheira is an important part of the Braga squad that finished in fourth place in the Superliga, nearly missing out in the UEFA Champion's League but settled in the UEFA Cup where it was safe to say that the Portuguese side guided through their group where Castanheira was influential in their success in the league and UEFA competitions.
He joined Sporting de Braga in the 1996/1997 season and has played there ever since, despite constant links with Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto. He has rejected all transfer speculations.
His career in Braga has been a good one; he was influential when Hungarian International Miklos Feher joined the club giving the Assist chart in the Superliga with 10 assists as Miklos Feher netted in 14 goals in 26 apearences.
He is known as an integral part of the squad, alongside Argentinian Andres Madrid; together they form one of Portugal's best midfields; the team finished fourth in the Superliga in the 2005/2006 season, and this season profit with the addition of João Vieira Pinto.
He is currently co-captain of SC Braga.
