Uyir is a Tamil language feature film released in 2006 meaning "Soul"."Sri Balaji Cine creations"(SBCC), a production house based in Chennai produced this as it's debutant film. SBCC took a huge and bold risk to choose this revolutionary story which is normally not acceptable in India. The story revolves around a women (Arundhadhi-casted by Sangeetha) who falls in love with her brother in law ( husband's younger brother , Sundar-casted by Srikanth) after the demise of her husband. The film attracted a lot of controversy for it's bold theme from the press. However, the women welfare organizations welcomed this viewing as an outcry for freedom of expression of Indian women.The producer R.Balaji and the Co-producer Ramamoorthy Saravana Kumar explained the message under the story and were confident of making the audience accept.Finally, because of the underlying social message, the film convinced the audience and succeeded in the box office.
