Hello, Uwain, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 16:17, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Crigewald

As they say in the movies, "oh be-have". Seriously, though, we are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so don't make joke edits. Some readers looking for a serious article might not find them amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do a bit seriously here. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write whatever you want (as long as it's not offensive).

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Helpline.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Helpline.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 16:19, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Helpline.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Helpline.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 16:19, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reported for vandalism

Apparently my IP has been blocked from editing for vandalising "2005 sydney race riots" page and several other pages. Truthfully i have never even been to these pages before now, what do i do? Have i been hacked of some sort?

I have checked and your user name is not blocked - so you might be fall out from some other vandal. Go to [[1]] and post a request for help there - as I don't know how to sort out this sort of related blocking. Sorry - I'm not tecky enough to know how to do this! Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! [edit] License tagging for Image:Sunset over Northern Canberra.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Sunset over Northern Canberra.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:10, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

Hey Im hoping you can help me, I have read the Featured Picture process and don't understand it very well. Am I supposed to add a whole new bit to the peer review page or something? Thanks, Uwain

PS: i want to submit this picture Sunset in Canberra

You can either nominate it straight as a candidate for featured picture or nominate it initially for peer review - which will give you feedback and an indication if it is likely to make the grade. I would try peer review as a first step. You will need to sort out the license issue first - or it'll be a no-starter. Good Luck. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 07:51, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

See below extract from the nomination prodedure page:

[edit] Too complicated?

If you are unable to follow the above procedure, add your image to Wikipedia:Picture peer review with the following syntax: [[Image:YourImageName.jpg|thumbnail|200px]], and mention that you would like to submit it, but that you don't know how. If someone else likes it, they will add it to Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates. Again, please do not add images directly to FPC using this syntax.

[edit] 64digits

A tag has been placed on 64digits, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ju66l3r 08:29, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signing your comments

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! - CobaltBlueTony 14:13, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
