UTS Students' Association
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The University of Technology, Sydney, Students' Association is the representative body for students at the University of Technology, Sydney. It is based at the Broadway campus of UTS. It commissions the student magazine Vertigo. The Association has departments who work collaboratively with the University to achieve practical outcomes for students, as well as ensuring that the University is held to account over its handling of student issues. There also has been many student occupations of various parts of the university in response to the disputes with UTS Administration regarding the impact of their decisions upon students. Historically, this has resulted in numerous successful campaigns which have won rights for students in the University.
In addition, the Association facilitates grassroots student collectives that organise around both student issues and wider social issues, such as education, queer rights, womyn's rights and the environment.

Students from various political backgrounds and ideologies have battled for control of the organisation. It has predominantly remained with left political groupings in recent history. Conservative groups have rarely contested the elections, though in the 2006 elections they managed to gain a substantial proportion of the student vote despite running a much smaller campaign than it's rivals. The low voter turn out (2.9%) and questionable campaigning tactics has lead some to question the popular legitimacy of the NLS
