[edit] Intro

UTG began to rebrand mid-ranged AEGs and powerful spring rifles. UTG first started with their MP5 model which came with both a MP5A4 full stock and a MP5A5 metal collapsible stock. As most lower priced AEGs, the UTG MP5 are packaged with a generic battery, a charger, accessories, and sometimes a simple sling, which are not usually included with higher priced guns, while the quality is questionable. It also comes with two high capacity magazines, in the form of 2 MP5 magazines with mag clamp and two 30 round magazines clamped together. The hi caps are low quality and they have misfeeding problems. This is arguably the first popular MPEG, firing around 260-280 FPS and having a quick 800 RPM rate of fire. First versions of the MP5 were plagued with problems, such as the fire selector easily breaking off, and low quality hop up. UTG has been continually coming out with newer versions to remedy the problems, ending at version 3.

The next model was an AK-47 that fired at 280 FPS . This gun was called the Warhawk, and was later followed by a Spetsnaz model, and a AK-47 Paratrooper, which has a folding stock. UTG has released a new M14 rifle out on the market, a rebrand of the KART model, not the AGM as some were originally led to believe. The M14 shoots at 320 FPS and shoots at 800 RPM. Some of the spring rifles that UTG carries includes spring versions of each AEG, an M87 shotgun in full stock, collapsible stock, and pistol grip configurations and the M324 bolt action sniper rifle, which features a 315-325 FPS velocity at a much lower price than other airsoft manufacturers. UTG's newest product is the Mk96 which fires at a similar fps with a .20g pellet. The Mk96 is based on the Accuracy International AE Rifle. Also, a spring MK 23 has been released, wich fires at 230 FPS with a .20 BB. Included with the pistol are two magazines and a metal mock silencer. Another model that UTG has come out with is an AK-74 model. This shoots at app. 300-340 FPS, comes with a battery, charger, sling, and two high capacity magazines as well as the AK-74 itself. It is noted by some owners of this AEG that it also has decent accuracy, and is comparable to a Tokyo Marui or Classic Army.

[edit] Other Products

UTG also produces many other products including scopes, flashlights, and tactical gear.

[edit] Reception

Many critics would argue that UTG is inferior to the more well established names in airsoft, such as Tokyo Marui, but appeals largely to low budget or beginner airsofters due to the low price of their guns, which are usually a fraction of the cost of higher quality AEGs. This can be shown by the popularity of their shotguns, which offer higher velocity, accuracy, than most other airsoft guns in their price range, although reliability on their spring replicas are to be questioned. UTG AEGs are usually direct copies of the guns from Tokyo Marui, although with generally lower quality control. However, due to that fact, most of them are able to take upgrades, and perform up to standards. More recent UTG guns have taken another route, being more noticably different from Tokyo Marui guns. Some users have noted that UTG guns seem to be improving in quality, however, and beginning to become more significant in the market usually dominated by brands such as Tokyo Marui.
