Utah Olympic Oval
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Utah Olympic Oval is located southwest of Salt Lake City in the township of Kearns. The Oval hosted the long track speedskating events for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Thanks to its high altitude (1423 m) and the associated low air resistance, ten Olympic and eight world records have been set at the oval, and after the Olympics it held the title of "fastest ice on earth". However, this honor has since been retaken by the 1035 m-high Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta. As of March 11, 2007 the Utah Oval holds 8 world records and the Calgary Oval 13.
