Utah Fast Pass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Utah Fast Pass is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation which holds the Utah Fast Pass event, a three-day, 900 mile performance and exotic car showcase.

The Utah Fast Pass is not a road race, as there are no prizes. Qualified drivers paid US$5,000 each to enter, with proceeds primarily benefitting the Utah Highway Patrol "Honoring Heroes Foundation", which supports the families of Utah Highway Patrol officers who have died.

The inaugural Utah Fast Pass event was held July 30-August 2, 2006. On August 2, the Utah Department of Transportation closed a a 15 mi (24 km) section of Route 257 to the public, allowing participants to drive as fast as they want. The UHP clocked and "fined" drivers based on their speeds, and the "fines" were donated to Utah Fast Pass. Richard Losee, driving at approximately 200 mph, lost control of his 2003 Enzo Ferrari during this segment, rolling and totalling it.
