UTA TRAX Sandy/Salt Lake Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sandy/Salt Lake Line is a line in the TRAX light rail system in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). It is the first line in the TRAX system; the line opened from downtown Salt Lake City, going through South Salt Lake, Murray, and Midvale en route to Sandy on December 4, 1999, opening one year ahead of schedule after two years of construction.
An alternate name used for the Sandy/Salt Lake line is the North/South Line. On the official TRAX route map, the UTA shows the line in blue; however, it is not called the "Blue Line".
[edit] Description of route
The route starts at the Delta Center at South Temple Street and 300 West. From there, it follows South Temple Street, then turns right at South Main Street, right at 700 South, and left at 200 West, which it follows to the Union Pacific corridor. It travels south in the UP corridor to 10000 South in Sandy. The whole route, from the Delta Center to the Sandy Civic Center, is 17.3 miles.
Originally, the route opened with 16 stations, but the 900 South station opened in 2005 as an infill, and a new station in Sandy at 9400 South is currently under construction.
