[edit] Fair (band) userbox
I have designed a userbox for people who like the band Fair. I don't know how to make userboxes, so if someone could make this for me, or instruct me how to make it, that would be great. The design is shown below.

[edit] Frustrated male
I am a bit confused as far as userboxs go but I guess I might as well put my idea here. I would like to see something like the following.
"This user wishes he was gay because woman confuse/frustrate him."
[edit] I have several ideas
- How about a "This user doesnt have a clue how to make userboxes" userbox?
- A "This user is emo" userbox
- And a "This user is a ninja" userbox?
- Also a "this user is in secondary school" for all the UK pupils.
Tycoonalex 19:14, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- "This user doesnt [sic] have a clue how to make userboxes" does not help bring together users with similar interests. "This user is emo" might have more weight to it, but are people really just interested in "being emo"? I can see "This user likes emo style music" being more acceptable, but still. "This user is a ninja" unless you study ninjitsu this shouldn't be a userbox, and in that case it should be "This user studies ninjitsu." (Tdmg 07:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC))

I have never created a userbox before so this is a bit shakey. But I thought that with the three or four for The Phantom of the Opera that there should be one for A Chorus Line.

[edit] Pixar Userboxes?
How about some Userboxes dedicated to Pixar and its movies? Examples for catch phrases:
Pixar - This user loves Pixar TS - This user loves Toy Story (Same for other movies) TS - You've got a friend in this user. MI - This user Scares because he Cares FN - This user believes Fish are Friends, not Food

[edit] Torananoha?
How about a Triangle Heart and/or Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha set? I'm not into the text icons, so maybe one of us can whip up a picture of a katana and/or a red orb for Raising Heart. I'm thinking
- "This user thinks Fuwa-ryuu beats Mid-childa magic any day" with the sword and vice versa with the orb, or
- for those that like the series equally, "This user practices Mikami-ryuu and Belka magic."
[edit] political
I've seen one user page which has a box saying "This user supports the Conservative Party" - obviously s/he is from the UK. I think a range of these might be useful for other UK people, e.g. "This user supports the Labour Party"; "This user supports the Liberal-Democrat Party" or "This user supports the Green Party" which I think covers all the main political parties in the UK. If one was being cynical one could say "This user supports the Labour Party but not New Labour" as well :-)

This user is against George W. Bush and likes Democrats. |
What about this?--Hassan 17:38, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
The UBX policy states that you can only say "This user is against George Bush" or "This user supports democrats." You aren't allowed to have a compound sentence. Don't ask me why, I'm just letting you know. Ard0 20:29, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Most likely for ease of use. Say someone agrees with one but not the other. Two userboxes makes this much easier.--Viridis 12:00, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Probably best not to use this user box as it reflects political beliefs and Wikipedia is not meant to have political beliefs in userboxes or no any page. Tellyaddict Talk 13:01 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- User pages - where userboxes are to be used - aren't covered by the NPOV policy. - Aerobird Target locked - Fox One! 16:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Ard0? I'm just to letting you know that the views expressed in the userbox are not formatted into a compound sentence...; let me break it up for you. "This" is an adjective modifying "user", which is the subject. "is against" is a verb phrase with "against" being an action verb. "likes" is also an action verb; "and" seperates the two verbs, which means that this sentence has a compound verb. "George W. Bush" is a direct object, as is "Democrats". The sentence does not have two independant clauses, making it simple. Now that that's out of the way, you can stop acting like you're smarter than everyone else. That kind of thing gets on my nerves -- and don't think about calling me a hypocrite. Heh... some junior-high students like you... -- The M.P. 19:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PhD
Hello!
I would LOVE for there to be a userbox with something to the effect of "This user is working towards a PhD" or "This user's goal is to earn a PhD" or something. Not just studying for an advanced degree in case one is, like me, not quite at PhD level yet, but has it in mind. Russia Moore

[edit] Tools that can be used to create Nation and state user boxes
For those of you building user boxes to show where people have been, I have created templates that given 2-3 letter code, return the name or flag of a nation. Matching templates convert that code and a state or province code (like IL for Illinois) into either the state/province name or the flag of that state or province.
Currently, I support all nations that have at least one top-level domain code for the Internet and a free use (not fair use) flag image. All flag images are believed to be SVG. For states, you use the same code and the Postal code for states or provinces (at least in the nations I support so far).
The only nations where I can currently do state or province lookups are the US and Canada. I don't expect to add more nations due to the amount of work required. However, I can provide instructions on how to extend my support. Just ask on my user page. I will create the basic template in my user namespace. You fill it in. All state/province lookup templates begin with "User:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceName " or "User:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceFlag " followed by the nation code. The functions for Canada are {{user:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceName ca}} and {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceFlag ca}}. (I have a central template (see below) that adds the nation code on the fly.) Note that the US has only one code ("USA") and it is not a domain name. If you pass no domain name, the US is used.
To Get a: | |||
---|---|---|---|
Name | Flag | ||
For a: | Nation | {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/GetCountryName}} | {{user:Will Pittenger/templates/GetCountryFlag}} |
Province or State | {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceName}} | {{user:Will Pittenger/templates/GetProvinceFlag}} |
Please feel free to ask any question you have at my talk page. Feel free to use these templates as you need to. They are intended to support my "Where I have been" templates, {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/Nation Flag Entry}} and {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/Province Flag Entry}}, but I wanted them to be usable inside user boxes. They are a tool waiting for your use. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pro-Choice, NOT pro-life
I was wondering if someone would make a userbox that was COMPLETELY pro-choice. The only one I found said "pro-life, and pro-abortion", with the pro-life link redirecting to an article on violence over abortion, which I do support. The problem is, it makes it sound like I'm "pro-life" in the sense that it's most commonly used. I'm pro-choice, but the links at the bottom put me in the category of pro-lifers! Which I do NOT want to be affiliated with! Please, can someone fix this? That would make life a lot easier. Thanks. ForestAngel 02:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New tools to list user boxes
I would now like to offer a trio of tool templates for listing user boxes. Together, they create a table with columns for Name (which shows how to call the box), Created By (defaults to read "Me"), and a sample of the box. The samples can normally be displayed with no code. All of the boxes I list at User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes are now displayed with just one line of code per box. I even was able to group boxes by type.
You use {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/User Box List Start}}
to begin the table. It adds the header section. Then, for each row, call {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/User Box List Row}}
. Then, to complete the table, call {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/User Box List End}}
. Only the row template requires any parameters.
BTW: If you would like to list templates like I do at User:Will Pittenger/templates, feel free to check out and use {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/Template List Start}}
, {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/Template List Row}}
, and {{User:Will Pittenger/templates/Template List End}}
. They require more parameters than the user box templates, but you will find they are more flexible too. However, you still call them in the same order you do the user box templates. Will (Talk - contribs) 09:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lovers of rhotics
I'm not familiar with programming, so sorry that I can't provide a demo for this. Rhotics are "non-lateral liquid consonants", and are mostly written as r or similar variants in many languages. I suppose if this userbox stands, it should be put in the grammar section or elsewhere.
Maybe the text can be: This user loves rhotics very much./ This user is a fan/lover of rhotics. And then rhotics links to its article. --Fitzwilliam 16:45, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sussex userbox
The User Box currently shown in the list of United Kingdom locations is actually for Sussex, Delaware. - I am a lousy artist and you might not like the color combinations I do, but if you supply any images and the wording you want, I will host the box as a subpage of User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes. Just let me know on my talk page. Will (Talk - contribs) 23:29, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I was surprised to not have found a box that says "This member is part of the Gay and Lesbian Community" or something similar to that. - There are a few webcomics left out of the webcomic list (Toothpaste for Dinner, Team special olympics, Megatokyo)
- A few more Blues Brothers ones plz!
- What type of clothing they wear (retro, tattered, emo, rich, etc.)

[edit] Some userboxes with numbers, please
Some existing userboxes can display a user-supplied number, e.g.

This user has set foot in 6 countries of the world. |
I would greatly appreciate if a userbox guru would add this functionality to these userboxes (or create new ones, if that is deemed more appropriate):
This user has completed a marathon!!! |
OSrc | This user contributes to Open Source Projects. |
This userbox:
This user enjoys Backpacking. |
makes me wish for one with the same image and a text like "This user has practiced mountaineering in an altitude of # m." where # is the user-supplied number. Perhaps, for the SI-0 users, an alternative unit could be useful.

Many thanks for creating these.
I tried the boxes, the first two look good, for the third I had expected the # to be replaced by the user-supplied number, while the box currently renders as "... of #5545 m".
I noticed that the first two boxes use the past tense, while the third uses the present tense.
I guess the choice of past/present tense needs to be decided for each userbox. Speaking from experience I believe that e.g. a contributor to an open-source project is going to contribute over a longer period of time, thus the present tense could also be useful. For the Marathon many will not be sure that they will complete another one, and as such the 'has completed' makes sense (to me). In the same way I would say that a mountaineer cannot really be sure to go back up to the highest altitude that that user has previously reached. As such I would prefer also the past tense for the mountaineering box, i.e. "This user has practiced mountaineering at an altitude of 6789 m".

I think it would be good for a userbox that says "This user knows that a second is precisely 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a Caesium atom." Prototype 01 14:28, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, here's one for you:

[edit] Marijuana
Here's a good idea for a userbox:
This user supports the legalization of marijuana.
It would be really nice if the userbox looked exactly the same at this one :
This user is a member of NORML. |
except for the text, which would be as above.
[edit] Internet Slang--1
Here's an idea for a userbox: the image being a LOL, and the caption reading "This user thinks that anyone who uses LOL, OMG or ROFL on a regular basis should seriously get a life".--Orthologist 22:13, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Like this?
This user thinks those who use internet slang need to go get a life. |
.
The link is here User:Yuanchosaan/Userbox/User Noslang. Sorry, I couldn't fit all the text in so I altered it a bit. Tell me if you like it. YuanchosaanSalutations! 02:35, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

- The best one I have seen. Great job!--Orthologist 19:50, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deleted article etc.
You should have three user boxes that basically state "This is the first article this user has made" then "this is the first article of this user that got deleted" and last but not least "this is the date this user got over said deletion" Sir Intellegent 00:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, mabie not a good Idea....
[edit] The pit of 100 trials
I was thinking that someone could create a (er... maybe some) about the Pit of 100 trials that says "this user got down to the xst,xnd,xrd, or xth level in the Pit of 100 trials in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" then another one that says, "This user got down to the 100th level in the Pit of 100 trials in [Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]] and got squashed by the boss down there", and, "This user got down to the 100th level in the Pit of 100 trials in [Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]] and obliterated the boss down there". Thank-you for your time... Sir Intellegent 15:32, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FRIENDS
I am surprised we dont have user boxes for individual character of the famous SITCOM Friends...
Brainstroming idea #1 --> I am a paleontologist like Ross !!
Brainstroming idea #2 --> I am a cleanliness freak like Monica !!
Well, i would be starting this new(rather small) project. Any help appreciated.
[edit] Tom Green Live
I am not sure how to make userboxes, but I suggest one for Tom Green Live under the talk show section. I would like it to be a double box, the left reading "webo-" and the right, "vision" (if it fits). And the main content with a green background would read "This person enjoys watching [Tom Green Live] on the national internet. (Of course with the wikilink). Please let me know when this has done. Thank You. Socby19 05:21, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Socby19
- I wasn't completely sure about the text, so feel free to modify it or contact me and I will :) Here is the link: User:Eddie1232/Userboxes/User_TomGreenLive eddie speak 15:42, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
webo- | This user enjoys watching Tom Green Live on the national internet. | vision |
- Thanks, I modified the colors a little bit, to make it clearer. I also made it read "national internet", because that's somewhat of a meme of the show. Socby19 16:32, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Socby19
