Lancaster is a city located in Fairfield County, Ohio. It is the County Seat of FAIRFIELD county. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 35,335. It is located near the Hocking River, approximately 33 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio. Fairfield County was formed December 9, 1800, by proclamation of Gov. St. Clair and so named from the beauty of its fair fields.
