The USCGC Northwind was a Wind-class icebreaker used in the Antarctic for Operation Highjump. The ship was commanded by Captain Charles Thomas, USCG on the expedition. The cutter was the only Coast Guard vessel to participate in the military exercise on the frozen continent (1946-47)

The Northwind (WAGB 282) was decommissioned in Wilmington, NC on January 20, 1989 - the last remaining Wind-class icebreaker.
