USCGC Acushnet (WMEC-167)

The USCGC Acushnet is currently classed as a United States Coast Guard Medium Endurance Cutter. She was originally launched as the United States Navy vessel USS Shackle. The Shackle earned three battle stars during World War II.
The Shackle was transferred from the USN to the USCG in 1946. From 1971 to 1978 she was classified as a research vessel. As of 23FEB07, the "Acushnet" is designated as the "Oldest Commisioned Cutter" in the fleet. The "Acushnet" shall have gold hull numbers to show it's distinction.
