Template talk:US-writer-stub

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Would it be possible to add content to the code that would automatically add stubbed items to Category:American writers? That would be a helpful addition, obviating the need for a separate action at the time of article composition as a stub. This would need to be a parameterized alteration so that the indexing term for the category is required at the time of stub template addition. Courtland 04:18, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

I've never seen that done to other stubs, and I don't think it's desired behaviour. Once the stub has grown enough you are supposed to remove the stub tag and then you'd have to add [[Category:American writers|<whatever>]] to it anyway. Pluss if it's for example a novelist then [[Category:American novelists|<whatever>]] should be used instead and the American writers part becomes redundant contributing to bloading that category unnessesarily. It might be an idea to add the stub cat itself as a child of Category:American writers though. That way people browsing for American writers will be more likely to find it. In fact I think I'll do that right now. --Sherool 14:19, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

I think this template should refer to "American writers" instead of "US writers", just because that seems like a more grammatically correct way of stating nationality, and it seems to have become convention on Wikipedia. Andrea Parton 17:34, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] US -> U.S. per MoS

The Wikipedia Manual of Style says that U.S. is preferred over US. Could someone please change the template to reflect this? Dismas|(talk) 08:38, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for change of template

Since there is now a {{US-poet-stub}} template, this template should say just "This article is about a United States writer", not "...about a United States writer or poet...". J. Finkelstein 02:37, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
