Urakami, Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture, is a suburb in Nagasaki, the exact ground zero where the atomic bomb exploded on August 9, 1945. It was the site of Urakami Cathedral, then the largest cathedral in the East. Urakami was not the intended Nagasaki ground zero for the explosion of the 'Fat Man' atom bomb, however winds on the day moved the bomb towards the hills of Urakami, which was close to the Mitsubishi Shipyards. Dr. Nagai Takashi, a medical doctor whose efforts secured funds for children orphaned as a result of the atomic bomb, was known as 'The Saint of Urakami'.
