Upper Peru

Upper Peru (Spanish: Alto Perú) was the region in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata compromising the Government of Los Chiquitos (The intendencies of Potosí, La Paz, Cochabamba, and Charcas (since renamed Sucre).
Following independence, the country was renamed Bolivia in honor of Simón Bolívar.
