From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the template documentation page for Template:Unverifiable-external-links.

This page is not necessarily intended to be viewed directly. If it uses variables, some links may appear broken. Do not replace these variables with hardcoded page names or URLs.

[edit] Usage

Place {{Unverifiable-external-links}} at the top of the external-links section, preceding a specific link or subset of links. This template will categorize tagged articles into Category:Wikipedia external links cleanup.

This template should be used in the following situations,

  • These links constitute an irreplaceable unique online resource on a subject, but are
    • Known to be inaccurate
    • Representing point of view as fact
    • Not a stable source, with a known potential to mislead the reader (ie, political blogs that have a history of making misleading statements)
  • There is an ongoing credible dispute over if external links may or may not be acceptable under WP:EL for reasons of verifiability or factual content.
  • That the reader should be particularly warned, but have a legitimate reason to be offered links to these sites.

Note, if the links are plainly not acceptable under WP:EL, they should be removed and not marked with this template. If there is some dispute over the links, the template may be required.

This template is for the specific problem of links to sites which have specific verifiability or reliability problems, to remind the reader that we do not verify the contents of external sites. If there are other problems with the links section, you should use {{External links}}.
