Unterseeboot 883 is a type IXD/42 Unterseeboot meaning, it is the type IX, sub-type D, created in 1942. It was the only commissioned IXD/42. It was similar to the IXD but with increased engine power, (5400 ehp vs. 4400 in IXD). U-883 was sunk in Operation Deadlight.
