University of Saint Mary (Kansas)

The University of Saint Mary is a degree granting liberal arts university headquartered in Leavenworth, Kansas operated by the Catholic order of the Sisters of Charity.
In addition to 25 undergraduate degree programs, the university offers five graduate degree programs at its Overland Park, Kansas campus.
Enrollment at the main campus in 2004 was 830.
The Sisters of Charity first established a girl's school in Leavenworth in 1858. A boarding school opened at the present location in 1870 as Saint Mary's Academy. In 1923, the school reorganized as Saint Mary's College, a junior college for women, and became a four year institution in 1932. The school began adding an inter-collegate program in the 1990's. Currently, there are varsity programs in men's baseball, basketball, football, and soccer; and, women's basketall, soccer and softball. To support the athletic programs a new facillity, the McGilley Fieldhouse was recently built.
The school became residentially co-ed in 1988, and added graduate programs at its satellite campuses in 2003.
