University of Mosul is one of the largest Educational and Research Centers in the Middle East.The University is located in Al-Shifaa Court, Mosul City, Iraq.

[edit] Academic program
The University of Mosul founded on the first of April 1967 upon the law no. 14 of this year, but the first steps of the university return to 1959 by establishing the College of Medicine which was under the Ministry of Health.
The university established to be a distinguished academic center of higher education in Mosul city and Iraq by graduating qualified people capable of meeting the needs of the country’s ambitious development plans and to assume leadership roles by providing them with up-to-date knowledge and advanced skills, at present it offers accredited Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in more than 100 scientific specializations. More than 80,000 students were graduated since the establishing to entering the professional world and effectively serve their country.
Since its establishment, the University has always given a very high priority to the development of its academic program and curricula responding to the needs of the Society and keeping pace with international academic developments and trends while preserving the values, policies and strategies of the Country.
[edit] Medical College
The College is located in the Medical Township which includes the Teaching Hospitals in Al-Shifaa Court, Mosul City, Iraq. The College of Medicine is the first established College in University of Mosul, founded in 1959, initially affiliated with the Department of Health then with University of Baghdad. In April 1967 and with the establishment of University of Mosul, the College became part of University of Mosul.
The Undergraduate study in the College is six years and the language of study is English. The College grants Doctorate Degree with the Iraqi and Arabic Boards. The total staff number is 142 in the College and the total number of graduates from the College is well over 6400 until 1992.
[edit] Sports and athletic facilities
Mosul University has several athletic facilities, such as the Mosul Sports development College, a multi-purpose arena and home to the Mosul basketball teams. It also serves both as the university's primary recreation facility and as a satellite location for several varsity sports. The college also includes cardio rooms, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a smaller pool for aquaerobics and other activities, a mezzanine, where all types of classes are held at all hours of the day, and an indoor cycling studio, weight rooms, and a gym floor for basketball. The college also holds sports such as volleyball, fencing, and wrestling. The offices of women's field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and men's soccer are also in the college. Mosul takes part in inter-university competitions in a wide range of sports.

The University houses a number of scientific research centers, which came in conformity with the University orientation to pursue the technological and practical development witnessed at this era. These centers play an important role in conducting research to develops and updates the university departments and to advancing the University mission of education, research and reaching out to the local and international communities.

The Mosul University Library System, is currently in tatters after the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, most of the books where taken by librarians to their homes in protection from the looting that took place, that were eventually returned to the library. Unfortunately lots of books were looted and the library was left in bad shape. Reconstruction has been slow due to corruption in ministries and the violence that has plagued the city and much of the country.
Undergraduates continue to use the library, due to its easy access as it is central to most locations within the university. The Medical college Library is the primary repository for Mosul Universities rare books and manuscripts. Iraq's oldest collection of maps, gazetteers, and atlases both old and new is stored in universities central Library and is open to the public. Large collections of Arabic and foreign literature is held in the Library. The Central Library is the main source of information at the University and plays an important role in facilitating research and enhancing the teaching process, It is open to the students and staff who are often looking through the latest references for research projects.
The library’s main function is to collect, organize, process and disseminate the information related to the specialization of the University colleges and activities.
The library is located in in the middle of the university campus, it composed from the following sections:

The University of Mosul is a multi-campus consists from three campuses located to the north of the city except the medicine college which locate at the medical compound of the city.

The first steps of the University of Mosul was on 1959 by founding the College of Medicine which was joint to the Ministry of Health at the time, and then to the University of Baghdad till establishing the University of Mosul on 1967.
In 1963 another two colleges (Engineering and Science) were established and the College of Agriculture on 1964 and College of Arts on 1966.
Due to increasing needs to the different specialization faculties in the country, the university continues in establishing more colleges and departments, in 1975 the Education college founded then Veterinary Medicine college in 1976 to be continuous to 19 colleges in 2003.
