The University of Karachi (Urdu: جامعہ كراچى ), located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, is the largest public university in Pakistan. It is ranked number three in the country according to HEC (Higher Education Commission). The university also holds the honor of producing largest amount of research output in terms of patent, international peer reviewed journals and regular academic conference.

It was chartered by the Majlis-e-Shoora in September 1950 via an Act of Parliament. The university was established in June 1951, the fourth oldest university in Pakistan and the first in Karachi.
The university campus is spread over an area of nearly 1300 to 1700 acres. The university consists of 58 departments organized into eight faculties: Arts,Commerce, Science, Pharmacy, Education, Medicine, Law, and Islamic Studies. In addition, there are 17 research centers and 130 affiliated colleges. KU offers morning and evening bachelors and masters programs. There are nearly 25000 students in the morning session and around 225000 students are enrolled as a private candidates. KU has produced major personalities of Pakistan such as Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi, Dr. Mahmood Hussain, Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Dr. Jameel Jalbi, Dr. Abdul Wahab. The KU alumni are also known for their participation in national politics.

Karachi University was a pioneer of Business Education in the mid fifties in South Asia, and has established Karachi University Business School on the pattern of well-recognized Business Schools in the Universities of Western World. It offers programs of BBA (Honors), MBA (Morning & Evening) and MBA after Honors.
