[edit] History

UHCL was authorized in 1971 by 62nd Texas Legislature as the University of Houston at Clear Lake City and began holding classes on campus in the fall of 1974. In 1983, it became a free-standing university separating from the University of Houston and referred to the institution from that point on as the University of Houston–Clear Lake. Today, UHCL is the third-largest institution in the University of Houston System with an enrollment of about 8,000 students and is the largest leading upper-level university in the state of Texas.

[edit] Campus

The University of Houston–Clear Lake is located on a nature preserve adjacent to the master-planned community of Clear Lake City. The campus consists of four classroom buildings: the Bayou, Arbor, Delta, and Student Services buildings. The university is organized into four schools: School of Business, School of Human Sciences and Humanities, School of Science and Computer Engineering, and the School of Education.

Unbeknownst to most, the majority of the 520-acre UHCL campus lies in the corporate limits of Pasadena, while the part of campus south of the bayou lies in the city of Houston.

Although UHCL has no sports teams, the school has a mascot named Blockie or simply a square with arms, legs, and eyes.
