The University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET), Kanpur,India, was founded in 1996, with a vision to serve the country in the twenty first century by offering its students advanced knowledge in Engineering and Technology, sciences and other areas of scholarship. The intellectual stimulation that is provide to each member of UIET community of the Kanpur University generates a passion in him/her to work wisely, creatively and effectively for the national development .

With an initial strength of 240 students, it has now more than 1700 students on its rolls in all the six disciplines of Engineering and other career-oriented programs like MCA, BCA, M.Sc. (Electronics), M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) and Advanced PG Diploma in Bioinformatics. It is a self-financed institute dedicated to advancing knowledge and educating students in Engineering and Technology as well as Sciences.

The institute offers rigorous and demanding engineering courses in following disciplines:

Over the years, there has been a continuous progress in all-academic activities. Parallel improvements in facilities and infrastructure to keep this institute at par with others have been made.The institute boasts of spacious buildings, air cooled lecture halls , modern laboratories and separate tutorial rooms . In the last few years ,there has been special emphasis on developing the laboratories and to attain even higher level of research activities in various streams of engineering ,technology and sciences .

The institute has a considerably good collection of engineering , sciences and technology books in the central library of the university and has a separate section for UIET .The entire library has been made digital.

The institute has well qualified and competitive faculty members. They not only work as teachers and help the students in their academic pursuits but also work as counselors to guide them in their future plans.

It is also evolving and changing with national aspirations, national perspectives and worldwide trends.

A large number of students of this institute qualify in GATE every year and have secured very high percentiles in the past years. Many of them are studying or have passed their M.Tech/MS/MBA programmes at various IITs,IISc Bangalore,IT-BHU ,BITS Pilani, XLRI Jamshedpur and and many others are pursuing their higher studies abroad .
