Universität Mozarteum Salzburg

In Salzburg, the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum Salzburg honours the Austrian city's most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The predecessor of the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg was the "Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum,” founded in 1841 through the energies of Mozart's widow Constanze Weber Mozart with its stated purpose the “refinement of musical taste with regard to sacred music as well as concerts.” Through the 19th century the concerts of the orchestra, officially named the Mozarteum Orchestra in 1908, became the center of Salzburg’s musical life.
In Salzburg, the small concert hall called the Mozarteum, maintained by the Foundation was built 1910-14 by the Munich architect Richard Berndl.
International Mozarteum Foundation, which is linked with the University, collects Mozart memorabilia, maintains the Mozart library (the Bibliotheca Mozartiana) the Mozart birthplace and other Salzburg locations linked with Mozart.
It presents an annual Mozart Week Festival of performances of the composer's works coinciding with his birthday around 27 January. It is regarded as an artistic highlight in the European concert calendar. In addition, the Foundation presents up to twenty other performances year-round.
