Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also known as the ULPGC (Spanish Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) is a Spanish university located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the Gran Canaria island.

It currently has five different campuses. Four in Gran Canaria (Tafira, Obelisco, San Cristóbal and Montaña Cardones) and one in the island of Lanzarote.

The University was created in 1989 after a long struggle from the people of Gran Canaria, which being the most populated and capital island of the Canaries, had been without a university until then. The University Reorganization Act of 1989 finally granted it, and the ULPGC was founded, with its main seat in Gran Canaria.

Current rector is Manuel Lobo Cabrera.
