Univel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Univel was a joint partnership of Novell and AT&T's Unix System Laboratories (USL) that developed the UnixWare operating system. It existed only briefly in the period between AT&T initially divesting parts of USL in 1991, and its eventual outright purchase by Novell, which completed in 1993. The SCO Group claims that Novell later transferred all of Univel's and USL's assets to the Santa Cruz Operation in 1995, whereas Novell claims that Novell retained numerous assets in that transaction, including the copyrights, patents, the right to direct SCO to take certain actions with regards to Unix SVRx licensees and the right to license Unix to their customers. The matter is currently being decided in SCO v. Novell.
