United States Miscellaneous Caribbean Islands
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United States Miscellaneous Caribbean Islands is an obsolete collective term for the territories controlled by the United States by the Guano Islands Act in the Caribbean Sea:
- Navassa Island
- Serranilla Bank (return to Colombia in 1982 unclear)
- Bajo Nuevo Bank (return to Colombia in 1982 unclear)
- Quita Sueño Bank (returned to Colombia in 1982)
- Serrana Bank (returned to Colombia in 1982)
- Roncador Bank (returned to Colombia in 1982)
- Corn Islands (returned to Nicaragua on April 25, 1971)
- Swan Islands (returned to Honduras in 1972)
The islands were given the FIPS country code of BQ before 1974. With the transfer of sovereignty of most of the islands, the FIPS country code of BQ now represent only Navassa Island, still controlled by the U.S.
