United States Marine Corps Drill Team
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United States Marine Corps Drill Team, headquartered at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., is composed primarily of enlisted personnel. Members of the team are recruited directly from infantry training. Sometimes also known as the "Silent Drill Team", the team specializes in executing both standard close-order drill movements and more creative "show" movements such as tossing of rifles, spins, twirls, etc. The Drill Team is regarded as an elite unit and is often used at ceremonial occasions. The term "Silent Drill Team" refers to the fact that many of the drills are performed as routines without the need for audible commands. The Marines use the M1 Garand as their weapon of choice during the routine instead of the M16 because of the better balance and weight.
