2Ernest Lundeen served until his death on August 31, 1940. Joseph Ball was appointed to the vacancy and served from October 14, 1940 to November 17, 1942. Arthur Nelson was elected in November of 1942 to finish out the term to January 3, 1943.
3Hubert Humphrey served until his death on January 13, 1978. Muriel Humphrey was appointed to fill the vacancy and served until a special November 1978 election in which David Durenberger won and finished out the term.
4Paul Wellstone served until his death on October 25, 2002. Dean Barkley served from November 5, 2002 to January 3, 2003.
