United Independent Left Movement (in Greek: Ενιαία Ανεξάρτητη Αριστερή Κίνηση, EAAK) is a network of left-wing student organisations, being active in 3rd-level educational institutions (Universities - Technical Academical Intitutions) in Greece
[edit] Organisation
EAAK consist of several independent schemas (special term to define such a political group), one per student union. Each EAAK schema has a relevant independence of organisation, political decision-making and activity. All the schemas are co-ordinating in a regularly organised co-ordinating assemly(2 times every year), while several local gatherings take place time by time.
A basic political choice of a schema, which makes the difference from a political party, is the so-called non-representative structure of the schema by separate persons or by a strict hierarchy. The importance of the consensus when making decisions. More populated schemas might vote.
[edit] History
In th 80's, there was the first experiment of building a radical left network of shemas, in Greek university. This experiment was A.S.F. (left students rallies), and was an enough successful in their time. E.A.A.K. was founded in 1990-1991, when a big group of KNE members disagree with the Main Committee and split, founding New Left Current (NAR), collaborate with A.S.F. Now in E.A.A.K: participate more than 10 radical left organisation (ARAN, NAR, ARAS, OKDE-SPARTAKOS, EKKE, EEK , ERGATIKI POLITIKI, ERGATIKI EXOYSIA, KOKKINO XEKINIMA and other). Though, EAAK schemas, based on their independence, retain a level of political freedom from their political co-ordinates.
The student elections result of EAAK is estimated at about 10%.[citation needed] E.A.A.K has been the avant-gaurde of every youth movement the last 16 years, and lead movements to a lot of victories. Like in the summer of 2006, when the law, announced of government, never got voted, due to mobilisations
[edit] Political opinion, tactics
Non-representative action: EAAK groups have in general a negative stance towards their representation in the school administration councils. They participate collectively as a group (not namely) in the administration council of each school and universities. They also refuse to accept decision-making in the Committee Meetings of the student unions and generally disapprove the administrative faculty councils, paying attention to the General Assemblies.
United university degree for all students: One of the main disagreements they have with PKS, is their defending the united form of the academic degree, claiming all the working rights on the entire of it. They disagree with the knowledge specialisation and the split of the knowledge objects. They are also opposed to any commercial involvement within the studies and the academic research.
Massive action: EAAK have massive actions quite often; such as rallies, sit-ins, occupation of administration offices and/or entire school buildings.
