The United Grand Lodge of America of Accepted Free-Masons was formed on 27 December 2005. While the identities of the original founders are unknown or uncertain, it is suspected that the individuals decided upon its creation after being expelled from "regular" Freemasonry for various reasons.

It is important to know that the UGLA is not a regular or recognized Masonic body by the standards of the world-wide Masonic fraternity, and is thus considered to be irregular. According to their website, the UGLA has no intentions of ever seeking recognition from a Grand Lodge. Because of this, members of regular and recognized Masonic bodies are usually prohibited from attending UGLA functions.
