United Democratic Party (UK)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The United Democratic Party was a minor political party in the United Kingdom. It was founded in mid-1974 by a group of far right figures who had formerly identified as Independent Conservatives.

The group focused on standing in elections against more moderate Conservative Party Members of Parliament. In the October 1974 UK general election, their fourteen candidates won a total of 4,810 votes. The party does not appear to have undertaken any further activity; it is unclear whether a "United Democratic Party" candidate in the Bermondsey by-election, 1983, had any connection to the earlier group.
