[edit] History

The current Union Vale Middle School campus was built in 2004, after the school district voted on an expansion that would increase the number of schools in the area. In 2001, the local residents voted for the addition of another middle school, Union Vale, and another elementary School, Vail Farm. After much review, the school district voted to have UW Marx be the primary contractor. The school went for a design, similar to that of which Arlington High School, also in Lagrangeville. The middle school opened on September 6, 2004 and welcomed in the new students. The school mascot is "The Rays". The students from LaGrange Middle School and Arlington Middle School were moved around in plan of a redistricting which separated many friends and caused a community uproar. The school was the newest addition to the ACSD schools, with a library (that includes a small computer lab), two state-of-the-art full size computer labs, and three brand new gymnasiums. Its outdoor facilities include a soccer, baseball, softball, and football field, as well as a track and four fenced tennis courts.

[edit] Current State

The school currently has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students. Currently, Union Vale offers 3 Honors courses, Earth Science, Accelerated Art, Math 1/A. Other courses are offered in a structured Level System i.e. If a student does poorly in math, there is a special math class aimed at his/her level. Students who excel in science are eligible for Regents Earth Science which earns them one High School credit.

[edit] Music Department

Its music department is one of the most recognized in the Northeastern United States. Union Vale won 1st place in all Music In The Parks competitions since 2004, in the categories for Band, Orchestra and Chorus.[citation needed]

[edit] Grand Opening

The grand opening of Union Vale Middle School was in September 2004. School officals were present as well as district officials and the public. Several newspapers were on hand. The ribbon was cut around noon, followed by a free roam period around the new facility, following that a marching band parade occurred around the campus property. Later that day on the other side of the property the ribbon cutting for Vail Farm Elementary took place.
