Union Township, Auglaize County, Ohio

Union Township is one of fourteen townships of Auglaize County, Ohio. It is in the northeastern part of the county and includes the village of Uniopolis as well as a part of the hamlet of Saint Johns. Census figures place the population at 1,870 up from 1,695 in 1990. 261 of those reside in the village of Uniopolis, with the remaining 1,434 in the remainder of the township
Union Township is bordered on the north by Perry Township in Allen County; on the west by Duchouquet Township; on the south by Clay Township; and on the east by Wayne Township and Goshen Township. The village of Uniopolis remains within the township.
The township encompasses exactly thirty-six square miles.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
The Wapakoneta City School District encompasses a large part of the township, with the eastern third served by the Waynesfield-Goshen Local School District.
The most of the township is served by the Wapakoneta (45895) post office, with the eastern third served by the Waynesfield (45896) post office. The village of Uniopolis (45888) and the hamlet of Saint Johns (45884) maintain post offices.
Union is the third most popular township name in Ohio; only Washington (43 townships) and Jackson (35 townships) are more common.
