Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences

The Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences (UCAAHS) is a full-time public high school, located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, United States. This school is a career academy on the Union County Vocational Technical Schools Campus, which also includes the Academy for Information Technology and the Union County Magnet High School.

The school is dedicated to the education of students in the field of Allied Health Sciences, as part of the Union County Vocational Technical Schools. The school was initiated in September of 2005, though the new Allied Health building is still under construction. Temporarily, students switch their classes between the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) building and the AIT Building (Bistocchi Hall).Currently, the school only has Freshmen and Sophomore classes.


The entirety of the school belongs to HOSA, a club directed at those interested in a career in health care.

[edit] Application/Admission

The Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences is an application-only school. It requires its applicants to attend an "Information Session", and then take an entrance exam. The exam is two parts: English and Math. This is the same exam taken by all applicants to a UCVTS school (includes Union County Magnet High School and the Academy for Information Technology. Admission is highly competitive.

Students who attend this school receive, upon graduation, an Associate's Degree from the Union County College(a certain grade point average must be maintained, however).

Freshman are trained in the CPR for the Professional Rescuer course, and are certified by the American Red Cross. Sophomores are given the First Responder certification by the American Red Cross. Juniors undergo an EMT Certification, and Seniors participate in an internship.
