Union Avenue Opera Theatre

Union Avenue Opera Theatre (recently renamed Union Avenue Opera) is an opera company based in Saint Louis, Missouri. The company was founded in 1994 by Scott Schoonover, the music director of Union Avenue Christian Church. In the summer of 1995, they performed their first opera, Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell and since that time have become an integral part of the St. Louis arts community. Union Avenue Opera is the smaller of two opera companies in St. Louis, the other being Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. While both are similar in that they are summer festivals, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis performs their season in English, while Union Avenue Opera stages operas in the original languages, with projected English titles.
Union Avenue has announced that their upcoming 2007 season will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, as well as a double bill of Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica/Gianni Schicchi, George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and a production of Bela Bartok's Duke Bluebeard’s Castle.
