Unicorns of Balinor

Unicons of Balinor is a series by Mary Stanton for young readers, especially those enchanted by creatures like unicorns, centaurs, and the like.
The story begins with a young girl, Ari, who is recovering in the hospital and suffers from memory loss. However, she does feel a strong connection to Chase, one of the horses at the Glacier River Farm where Ari lives with her guardians, Ann and Frank. When Ann and Frank decide that Chase needs to be used for riding lessons in order to pay for Ari's medical bills, she runs away with the horse and falls through a gap in a cave along with her collie, Lincoln, and Lori Carmichael, the girl which Chase was to give lessons to.
The group lands in Balinor, a magical land of unicorns, plagued by an evil untangible entity known as the Shifter. Ari is revealed to be the Princess Arianna, heir to the throne of Balinor, while Chase is actually a unicorn known as the Sunchaser. With help from Atalanta, a unicorn known as the Dreamspeaker, and Tobiano, an obnoxious paint unicorn, they are to recover the Royal Sceptre and defeat the Shifter to restore the balance of magic.
