The University of Texas at Austin Portal

The University of Texas at Austin, often called UT or Texas, is the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. The main campus is located less than a mile from the Texas State Capitol in Austin. Founded in 1883, the University is sometimes referred to as a "Public Ivy," and it is currently (as of Fall 2005) the fifth largest single-campus in the nation by enrollment (and had the largest enrollment in the country from 1997-2003), with upwards of 50,000 students and 20,000 faculty and staff.

Augie Garrido (born February 6, 1939) is a coach in NCAA Division I college baseball. As of the end of the 2006 season, Garrido has compiled a record of 1,542 wins, 717 losses and 8 ties over 37 seasons of collegiate coaching (.682). No other coach in the division has recorded as many wins.

Garrido is currently the coach of the University of Texas at Austin Longhorns, where he has coached for the last eight seasons and amassed a record of 391-193-1 (.669) prior to the 2007 campaign.

Garrido's teams have won five national titles (1979, 1984, 1995, 2002, 2005). He is the first coach to lead teams from two different schools (California State University, Fullerton and Texas) to national titles, and is the first coach to guide squads to national championships in four different decades. January 4, 2007 — The Supreme Court Clinic of the University of Texas School of Law receives word they will be able to argue a case before the Supreme Court of the United States.
December 3, 2006 — The 2006 Texas Longhorn football team accepts a bowl bid to play in the 2006 Alamo Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Janis Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American blues-influenced rock singer and occasional songwriter, remembered best for her powerful and distinctive voice. Though Joplin began attending the University in 1960, she never completed a degree.
